The 6 major questions when taking on a new job and becoming a member of a management team
➡ Question 1 – Why did they choose me? What do they expect of me? Who am I to have this position?
These are probably the most important questions in trying to understand a person’s new role in the organization. What we hear most from our coachees is that they think they know what is expected of them when they take on their new position. Yet a few weeks or months later, they panic as they realize that they do not know what is expected of them.
To avoid this situation, here are a few questions you could ask yourself:
- Have you clarified your objectives and set solid performance indicators with your new boss?
- Have you connected with the different stakeholders to understand the past history, present situation, and future possibilities of the activity or organization you will be heading?
An individual coaching program enables the participant to take hold of their new position and understand why they are there. This allows the coachee to map out a success plan for themselves, their department and their organization. Thus rational thinking and deep feelings intertwine to find the right mix and bring in the sensation of moving in the right direction.
